Punjabi Folk Music

Music is a promonant part of our life . People believe music has super healing powers . Similarly  Punjabi Folk Music is the uniquest around the globe. Punjabi music is a part of our daily life. It is  believed that only punjabi music can make a foreigner who doesn't even understands it makes him dance. Actually today's Punjabi music is way different then it used to be in old times.

Ghara

This a simple eathern pitcher musical instrument used in the folk music , folk songs and folk dances. It is playing by stricking the outer sides with ring worn on finger and is also played on its open hand to produce distinct rhythm beats.

Toomba

Toomba is  presently very popular in Western Bhangra Music. It is a folk instrument based on Iktra ,  used by legendary singers . It popularized in modern era by Punjabi Folk Singer Lalchand Yamalajatt (1914-1991) . The instrument is made of wooden stick mounted with a gourd shell

Dhol

Dhol is a double headed drum which is played with the help of 2 stick named CHITTI and Da

Bugdu

Bugdu is a simple instrument made of wood . This is made over a string instrument made of dried gourd. It is especially used in Malwai Giddha.

Algoza

Algoza is a pair of woodwind instrument used by Punjabi Musicians. It is also called Gorhi Donali, Donal. This instrument is used in folk songs like Mirza Jugni,Kallian etc.

The Instrument is used as an accompaniment with folk dances.

Dhad

It is a hourglass shaped traditional musical instrument. It is mainly used by dhadi singers who sing traditional ballads of brave warriors and heroes drawn from history.

Rabab

Rabab is an musical instrument from Afghanistan, but it became a Punjabi Instrument as it was used to be played by First disciple and companion of Guru Nanak-Bhai Mardana. It became an essential component of Punjabi hymns.

Chimta

Chimta literally means tongs . The instrument consists of 2 long flat pieces of iron with pointed ends and rings mounted on it. It is often used in folk songs, bhangra music and Sikh Religious music i.e. Gurbani Kirtan as well as other religious music.

Dilruba

It is also known as Esraj and was founded  by 10th Guru of Sikhs Guru Gobind Singh Ji.It was developed in 17th century.It is considered to be punjabi instrument as a Sikh Guru discovered it,but it was originated in Patna , Bihar.

Taus

Taus is a Punjabi board string instrument invented by 6th Guru of the Sikhs Guru Hargobind .it has a peacock body and a neck with 20 heavy metal frets .This neck holds on a long wooden rack which have 20 to 30 strings and instrument is played with a bow.The instrument projects a sound with a deeper tone.
